Fact Sheet: Sustainable Technologies Sector
The Canadian sustainable technologies sector (sometimes called “Cleantech”) comprises renewable energy (bioenergy, geothermal, hydro, hydrogen and fuel cell, smart grid and energy storage, solar, waste-to-energy, wave and tidal, wind, and nuclear), and environmental sub-sectors (air pollution control, water and wastewater, solid waste management). Canada benefits from a wealth of renewable energy riches and is endowed with vast and varied natural resources, including enormous supplies of water, biomass, not to mention sun and wind—all the raw materials needed to produce green energy.
