Minister of State Kent Congratulates People of Nicaragua on Occasion of Their Independence Day
(No. 253 - September 15, 2009 - 2:00 p.m. EDT) The Honourable Peter Kent, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas), today issued the following statement congratulating the people of Nicaragua as they celebrate their country’s Independence Day:
"Canada extends congratulations to the people of Nicaragua as they celebrate the 188th anniversary of their country’s independence.
"In January, I had the opportunity to visit Nicaragua during my first official visit as minister of state for the Americas. Canada has had a long-standing relationship with Nicaragua, and we continue to be committed to supporting democracy there and in the rest of the hemisphere."
