Minister of State Kent Marks Independence Day of Saint Kitts and Nevis

(No. 263 - September 19, 2009 - 10 a.m. EDT) The Honourable Peter Kent, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas), today congratulated the people of Saint Kitts and Nevis as they celebrate their country’s Independence Day:

“Canada salutes the people of Saint Kitts and Nevis as they mark their country’s independence. Kittitians and Nevisians celebrate this historic day all over the world, including here in Canada, and I wish them well. We have a long history of close relations based on our shared Commonwealth history and similar British and French cultural heritage. We also enjoy cooperation in multilateral organizations such as the Organization of American States and the United Nations.

“Saint Kitts and Nevis has a rich and vibrant culture, which adds diversity to the Caribbean region. The Saint Kitts and Nevis diaspora in Canada has contributed to Canada’s political, commercial and cultural mosaic. Canada remains committed to strengthening relations with Saint Kitts and Nevis.”
