Statement from Minister of State Kent on Passing of Former Panamanian President Endara

(No 283 - September 29, 2009 - 5:30 p.m. EDT) The Honourable Peter Kent, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas), today issued the following statement on the passing of Guillermo Endara, former president of Panama:

“On behalf of all Canadians, I wish to extend my deepest condolences to President Endara’s family and to the people of Panama. President Endara led his country back to democracy in 1989 and put Panama on a path to stability and prosperity.

“Canada’s relationship with Panama is deep and long-standing. We can pay tribute to President Endara’s achievements by continuing to work hard to build a region that is prosperous and secure and a model of democratic governance.”
