Statement from Minister Baird on Postponement of Official Visit to Venezuela
(February 19, 2013 - 11:30am ET) Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird today issued the following statement:
“Over the past few days, I have held productive meetings in Mexico, Cuba and Peru on jobs, economic growth, long-term prosperity, and the need for individual freedoms and human rights. I look forward to having similar talks in Panama.
“In Cuba, the government was a willing participant in these discussions and continued open dialogue. Our discussions were productive, respectful and meaningful.
“We hope to find another mutually convenient time to engage with Venezuela on matters related to economic prosperity and human rights.
“Canada will continue to work with our friends in the Americas to build a better, brighter future for the people of our shared hemisphere.”
