Minister Fast Meets President of Burma
September 3, 2012 - Burma - The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, meets with Burmese President Thein Sein in Naypyidaw to discuss how Canada and Canadian companies can help Burma on its path to greater democracy and prosperity.
Canadian companies are world leaders in corporate social responsibility, employing thousands of people abroad and creating economic growth and development in the countries where they operate. Further, they bring considerable experience in fostering and promoting sustainable development and responsible business practices.
Thein Sein has been president of Burma since March 2011 and has championed a political and economic reform process that led to Canada's easing of economic sanctions in April 2012.
Minister Fast is on a four-nation trade mission to Southeast Asia.
