Canada-Republic of Moldova Agreement for the Promotion and Protection of Investments
Background
Canada and the Republic of Moldova began negotiations toward a Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA) in June 2013. During a visit to Canada by Tudor Ulianovschi, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Moldova, on June 12, 2018, Canada and the Republic of Moldova signed the FIPA. The agreement entered into force on August 23, 2019.
The FIPA will provide greater predictability and certainty for Canadian investors considering investment opportunities in the Republic of Moldova. It is a comprehensive, high-quality agreement that will protect investors through the establishment of a framework of legally binding rights and obligations.
