Canada-Philippines Exploratory Free Trade Discussions
In May 2015, Canada and the Philippines announced the launch of exploratory discussions for potential negotiations of a bilateral free trade agreement. An initial exploratory meeting was held in July 2015 in Manila, Philippines.
The Government of Canada is currently focused on overall economic engagement with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). In August 2016, Canada’s Minister of International Trade, the Honorable Chrystia Freeland, announced several initiatives to deepen commercial relationship with ASEAN’s fast-growing economies, which includes the Philippines.
