Canada and Montserrat relations
In Montserrat, Canada has been represented by the Canadian High Commission in Barbados since 1967.
Canada's bilateral relations with Montserrat are limited due to its status as a British Overseas Territory. Overall, the relations focus primarily on trade and tourism. Canada has a cooperative partnership with Montserrat, a reflection of the broader historical relationship between Canada and the United Kingdom. As a British Overseas Territory, Montserrat’s foreign relations, defence and internal security are the responsibility of the United Kingdom.
Discussions are underway between Canada and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), which Montserrat is a member of, aimed at achieving a mutually beneficial trade agreement that provides significant economic benefits and takes into account the region's capacity constraints and vulnerabilities.
