Friends of Canada gather to celebrate Canada Day in Iraq

On July 9, the Canadian Embassy in Baghdad celebrated the first Canada Day in Iraq in more than two decades.

The Canada Day celebration capped several months of #Canada150 activities in Iraq, bringing together key Iraqi and international attendees.

Joined by more than 200 guests, the Canadian embassy had many reasons to celebrate. In the last year, the embassy in Baghdad and office in Erbil have continued the work of the Government of Canada in partnership with the Global Coalition Against Daesh. This includes launching humanitarian, stabilization, development, resettlement and policing programs in support of Iraq’s efforts toward greater security and stability

These efforts have all been in support of the Iraqi people, who continue to bravely stand up to Daesh and work hard to build a better future for their country.

Canada Day 2017 in Iraq was another milestone and allowed our team to showcase the best of Canadiana to our international and Iraqi contacts.
