Global Affairs Canada takes the privacy of participants seriously. Participation in this outreach initiative is voluntary. Your decision to participate or not participate in this initiative will in no way affect any relationship with Global Affairs Canada or the Government of Canada. Personal information, including input that you may provide, is collected under the authority of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Act. The purpose of collecting the information you provide is to support Canada’s participation in treaty negotiations on artificial intelligence, human rights, democracy and the rule of law in the Council of Europe (CoE) and any further policy development that may be required on the potential regulation of artificial intelligence in Canada.

You can make your views known on questions related to the negotiations by emailing your comments to AI-treaty_traite-IA@international.gc.ca. Information sent to this email address will be collected directly by Global Affairs Canada.

Any personal information collected by Global Affairs Canada will be protected, used and disclosed in accordance with the Privacy Act and as described in the Standard Personal Information Banks Public Communications (PSU 914) and Outreach Activities (PSU 938), which can be found in the publication InfoSource.

The information you provide will be stored securely by Global Affairs Canada. At Global Affairs Canada, your personal information will be stored on a secure server, accessed only by those who have a working need to do so.

Global Affairs Canada may publish reports, internally or externally, that contain summaries and details of submissions received. Your personal information will not be included in these reports.

For the purpose of supporting Canada’s participation in treaty negotiations on artificial intelligence, human rights, democracy and the rule of law in the CoE and any further policy development that may be required on the potential regulation of artificial intelligence in Canada, Global Affairs Canada may share your personal information and your submission with the other core departments: the Department of Justice; the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat; and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. Your submission may also be shared with other government departments for the same purpose.

Under the Privacy Act, you have the right of access to, and correction of, your personal information. To exercise either of these rights, you must make a request for access to your personal information. For more information about your right of access, please refer to Global Affairs Canada’s OpenGAC.
