Bilateral relations
Canada established diplomatic relations with Angola in 1978. Canada is represented in Angola by the Embassy of Canada based in Maputo, Mozambique. There is also an Honorary Consul in Luanda.
Canada and Angola maintain positive relations, in part due to Canada’s important role during Angola’s peace and disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) processes in the late 1990s.
Trade relations
The Angolan market presents opportunities for Canadian businesses and investors in the natural resources, infrastructure, clean technology, aerospace and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sectors, focusing on having Canadian standards in curriculum being adopted locally. In 2023, two-way merchandise trade between Canada and Angola totalled $57.7 million, comprising of $57.6 million in exports from Canada and $0.1 million of imports from Angola.
