Bilateral relations
Official relations between Canada and San Marino were first established in 1960, at the consular level. Since 1997, the two countries have maintained full diplomatic relations. In September 2016, Canada and San Marino signed a youth-mobility agreement, as part of the International Experience Canada program. This agreement allows Canadian and San Marino youth to take an extended holiday abroad and work to pay for their expenses for up to 1 year.
Canada is represented in San Marino by the Embassy of Canada to Italy, in Rome. The deputy permanent representative at the San Marino mission to the United Nations in New York also acts as ambassador to Canada.
Trade relations
In 2011, a tax information exchange agreement came into effect between Canada and San Marino, signalling the commitment of both countries to financial transparency.
