The Embassy of Canada to Myanmar, today issued the following statement:
“Canada is appalled by the latest reports of the Myanmar regime’s military aerial attacks against civilians today in Pa Zi Gyi village, Sagaing Region, which are reported to have killed over 50 civilians, including women and children, and injured many more.
“Canada condemns the Myanmar regime’s repeated, deliberate, widespread, indiscriminate and disproportionate use of force against civilians. The deliberate targeting of civilians is a violation of international humanitarian law.
“Our thoughts are with the loved ones of the victims as well as those killed and injured by these heinous acts of violence, particularly during Myanmar New Year and Thingyan Festival.
“We reiterate our calls for the Myanmar regime to immediately cease its violence. We continue to urge all countries to support the people of Myanmar by immediately stopping the sale or transfer of arms, military equipment, dual-use equipment, and technical assistance to Myanmar.
“We remain resolute in our support for all those working peacefully toward an inclusive and democratic future for the people of Myanmar.”
