Joint statement by Prime Minister Trudeau and President Subianto on Canada-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement

November 15, 2024 - Lima, Peru - Prime Minister’s Office

“We welcome the substantive conclusion of negotiations for a Canada-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

“With the objective of bringing the CEPA into force as soon as possible, we commit to complete the remaining technical work by the end of 2024 and begin our respective domestic procedures with a view to signing the Agreement in 2025.

“The negotiations have resulted in a comprehensive trade agreement that addresses market access for goods, services, and investment, and includes provisions on small and medium-sized enterprises, labour, environment, and women’s economic empowerment, and co-operation on critical minerals.

“The CEPA represents a significant milestone in our longstanding bilateral relationship underpinned by a shared commitment to rules-based trade, open markets, and inclusive economic growth.”
