Fraudulent calls alert: Global Affairs Canada
There have been recent reports of fraudulent phone calls that appear to be from Global Affairs Canada (GAC). Scammers are pretending to be officials calling from GAC, asking to sign documents. GAC did not place these calls.
Furthermore, GAC does not request payments by phone. If you have received consular financial assistance in the past, officers may contact you to discuss your outstanding loan and methods of repayment. In such cases, you will have received an invoice with a case number, which the officer will be able to confirm.
If you’ve received a suspicious phone call and wish to report it, contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, the agency responsible for dealing with fraudulent calls of this nature.
