Reminder - Minister Paradis to Deliver Opening Remarks at Center for Strategic and International Studies Conference in Washington, D.C.

October 8, 2014 - The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of International Development and La Francophonie, will travel to Washington, D.C., on October 9 and 10, 2014, to attend a conference organized by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), and to attend the fall meetings of the World Bank Group and International Monetary Fund.

On Thursday, October 9, Minister Paradis will deliver opening remarks at the CSIS conference entitled “Major Drivers for the Development Agenda: The Trade and Development Nexus, Science and Technology, and Governance in the Extractives Industry.” The remarks will be broadcast live on www.ustream.tv/CSIS.

While at the conference, Minister Paradis will also participate in a plenary session entitled “Development Challenges and Opportunities: Perspectives from the United States, Canada and La Francophonie” and in a panel discussion on “Best Practices in the Extractives Industry.”

During Minister Paradis’ trip to Washington, he will also attend the Financing for Development meeting with United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, where he will advance Canada’s priorities on financing for development, given his role as chair of the Redesigning Development Finance Initiative.

On Friday, October 10, Minister Paradis will also participate in a moderated panel discussion entitled “Civil Registration and Vital Statistics - Making Everyone Count: Unique Identification for Shared Prosperity,” where he will share lessons and perspectives on why civil registries and national identification systems are smart public investments.
