Final Environmental Assessment of the Canada-European Union Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement

The Government of Canada has concluded negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with the European Union (EU). Further to the Notice of Intent to conduct a strategic environmental assessment and the Initial Environmental Assessment, Global Affairs Canada has completed a final Environmental Assessment based on negotiated outcomes.

The Government of Canada is committed to sustainable development. Mutually supportive trade, investment and environmental policies can contribute to this objective. To this end, trade negotiators endeavour to consider, when appropriate, potential environmental effects of trade negotiations. Strategic environmental assessments of trade negotiations are critical to this work. The purpose of this Final Environmental Assessment Report is to document the outcome of negotiations in relation to the EA process.

Strategic environmental assessments of trade negotiations are prepared pursuant to the 2010 Cabinet Directive on the Environmental Assessment of Policy, Plan, and Program Proposals.
