Message to Industry – Changes to Certain EICS Commodity Codes Effective January 1, 2022

The purpose of this message is to inform you of upcoming changes to certain Export and Import Controls System (EICS) commodity codes as a result of World Customs Organization’s (WCO) HS code updates and related Customs Tariff updates coming into effect January 1, 2022. Permit and certificate applications with an entry or exit date after December 31, 2021 for the affected goods will be subject to the new commodity codes.

Please note that there have been no changes to trade controls policy as a result of these code updates.

Supply-Managed Goods

For supply-managed goods, these changes impact certain codes under the following tariff rate quotas (TRQs):

For those who have already applied for affected import permits with an entry date after December 31, please contact either Yogurt_Buttermilk-Yogourt_Babeurre@international.gc.ca, Other_Dairy-Autres_Produits_Laitiers@international.gc.ca, or irep@international.gc.ca as applicable.

Non-Supply Managed Goods

For non-supply managed goods, these changes impact certain codes contained in the following tariff preference level and origin quota provisions:

Those who have already applied for permits for the affected goods with an entry date after December 31 should contact either TPL/NPTTIC@international.gc.ca or Origin.Quotas@international.gc.ca as applicable.
