Multilateral and bilateral engagement in responsible business conduct
Canada promotes international standards for responsible business conduct in multilateral forums including the OECD, United Nations, G7, Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation and Organization of American States. Multilateral forums provide Canada the opportunity to demonstrate leadership, share knowledge and work with other countries to promote and strengthen international responsible business conduct policies and practices.
Canada advances responsible business practices in free trade agreements and foreign investment protection and promotion agreements, in areas such as sustainable development, environmental protection, Indigenous rights, labour rights, gender equality, anti-corruption, transparency, and governance. Since 2009, most of Canada’s trade and investment agreements have contained provisions related to responsible business conduct. Read more on Canada’s trade and investment agreements.
