Rules and Certification of Origin chapter

Bicycle made of 63% North American parts: Meets rules of origin

One of the many advantages of CUSMA is access to preferential tariff treatment, meaning lower to no tariff applied to exported products.

The CUSMA rules of origin are a set of criteria that describe the level of production that needs to be done to a good in North America for it to be eligible for preferential tariffs.

With CUSMA, only a set of elements are required, indicating that the good meets the rules of origin, which may be placed on an invoice or any other document.

Elements to certify the origin:

  • Identification and address of the certifier
  • Exporter
  • Producer
  • Importer
  • Description and HS classification of the good
  • The rule of origin
  • Signed statement
