Communiqué from the Lima Group

The governments of Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Saint Lucia, members of the Lima Group reject and strongly condemn the illegal detention of Mr. Roberto Marrero and the unacceptable trespassing of the residence of Deputy Sergio Vergara.

The Lima Group demands of the illegitimate and dictatorial regime of Nicolás Maduro the immediate release of Mr. Marrero and the full respect of the parliamentary jurisdiction of Deputy Vergara, and calls on international human rights organizations to immediately exercise their powers with determination regarding the Venezuelan State.

We hold the Maduro regime responsible for the security and well-being of Messrs. Roberto Marrero and deputy Sergio Vergara. We demand an end to the harassment of the Venezuelan democrats and the systematic practices of arbitrary detention and torture in Venezuela.
