Czechia - Universal Periodic Review

Session reviewed: 42nd session of the Universal Periodic Review
Date reviewed: January 23, 2023

Recommendation

Canada commends Czechia’s progress in implementing recommendations over the reporting period. We welcome among many achievements, the new Strategy of Roma Equality, Inclusion and Participation, policies to combat extremism, and the new Government Strategy for Gender Equality.

Canada recommends that Czechia:

  1. Ensure support and adequate funding to continue implementing education reform aimed at including students with special needs into the mainstream education system;
  2. Take steps to prevent crimes against minorities as well as individuals and communities in situations of vulnerability through education, diffusion of public information and training; and ensure all hate crimes are effectively and promptly investigated and prosecuted;
  3. Set up a National Human Rights Institution in Czechia with a strong and independent mandate;
  4. Ensure equal rights of LGBTI couples in Czech law, including in marriage and adoption.
