Thank you, Mister President.

Canada welcomes the efforts made by Togo to strengthen its National Human Rights Commission.

Canada recommends that Togo:

1. Amend laws that unduly restrict the rights to freedom of expression, of peaceful assembly and association, to bring them in line with international human rights standards.
2. Ratify the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.
3. Introduce legislation prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity and expression.
