Minister Fast Is First Federal Cabinet Minister to Fly Non-stop Vancouver-Guangzhou Route

October 7, 2011
Vancouver

The Honourable Ed Fast, Minster of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, is the first federal cabinet minister to travel on China Southern Airlines’ new direct flight from Vancouver International Airport to Guangzhou, China, since its inauguration in June 2011.

The Guangzhou Airport is located in Guangdong province, one of China’s—and the world’s—fastest-growing regions. Guangdong’s foreign trade accounts for more than one quarter of China's overall foreign trade. Guangdong also has the country’s highest provincial per capita gross domestic product. In July, China Southern Airlines also inaugurated a new cargo service between Vancouver and Shanghai.

While in China, Minister Fast will also visit Shenzhen, Shanghai, Suzhou, Beijing and Qingdao.
