Minister Fast Highlights Leading-Edge Canadian Technologies

April 12, 2013, Yokohama, Japan>

Left: The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, meets with Kenichi Komatsu, Chairman of the Japan Medical Imaging and Radiological Systems Industries Association.

Right: The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway with JIRA officials and Canadian trade mission delegates at the International Technical Exhibition of Medical Imaging (ITEM).

ITEM is Japan’s premier exhibition for the medical imaging industry, featuring exhibits by international device manufacturers and service providers. Minister Fast visited ITEM to highlight Canada’s leading-edge medical imaging technologies and to support Canadian companies attending ITEM.

Canada has exceptional strengths in imaging technologies, as well as a robust pipeline of research and development in emerging imaging technologies. Over 2,000 medical-device companies operate in Canada, of which 70 to 80 are involved in diagnostic imaging.

Minister Fast and the Honourable Alice Wong, Minister of State (Seniors), are leading a five-day trade mission to advance the interests of Canadian businesses in China and Japan. Increased trade will in turn lead to more jobs and greater prosperity in Canada.
