Current status: Closed

This consultation ran from May 21, 2024 to June 28, 2024.

Global Affairs Canada (GAC) is seeking input on the potential collection and publication of country of smelt and cast (CSC) information for select aluminum imports. This includes the usefulness of the information, the definition of CSC, the proposed method to collect the information, and overall impacts on stakeholders.

Purpose of consultation

Through the Aluminum Import Monitoring Program, GAC monitors imports of select aluminum products and collects import data under General Import Permit (GIP) No. 83. GAC is seeking stakeholder feedback on potential requirements for aluminum importers to provide information on the CSC, as an additional condition of using GIP No. 83. Importers would need to provide:

  1. The country of largest smelt;
  2. The country of second largest smelt; and
  3. The country of most recent cast.
