Public consultations on Canada’s tariff rate quotas for commodities subject to supply management

Global Affairs Canada is committed to protecting the privacy rights of individuals and safeguarding the personal information under its control in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act.

“Personal information” is defined as any information, in any form, about an identifiable individual, including details of an individual’s personal experiences, opinions or views. Please refer to section 3 of the Privacy Act for further details regarding personal information.

Global Affairs Canada is seeking the views of the Canadian public and interested stakeholders regarding the tariff rate quotas (TRQs) for commodities subject to supply management and that are established by the World Trade Organization (WTO), the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and potentially the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA). The submissions received during the consultation process will be used for the purposes of informing the Government of Canada’s decision-making on longer-term allocation policies for Canada’s supply-managed TRQs.

Personal information is collected under the authority of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Act, Section 10(2)(e), and is described in Standard personal information banks: Outreach Activities (PSU 938).

Completion of the Respondent Profile fields is not mandatory. If completed, however, the information may be used by Global Affairs Canada officials to contact you for clarification regarding your submission, to schedule a requested follow-up meeting with the Supply-Managed Trade Controls Division, to disseminate program-related information or to issue an invitation to a trade-related event, seminar or workshop.

Please ensure that you limit the information you provide in your submission only to your views concerning Canada’s TRQ administration policies. You are asked not to include personal information of another individual, which includes personal views and opinions about them, as the Privacy Act considers these statements to be the personal information of the other individual.

Do be advised that Global Affairs Canada may publish reports, internally or externally, that will summarize submissions received. These reports will not contain any personal information that could potentially identify you.

We will not use the information you submit, including your contact information, for any purposes other than those described in this privacy notice statement without first obtaining your explicit consent, subject to the exceptions of the Privacy Act.

For the purpose of ensuring a common Government of Canada approach in the consultation process for the review of Canada’s administration of TRQs, your submission may be shared with other government departments with responsibilities related to products subject to supply management, particularly Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. For your information, their personal-information-handling practices are also governed by the Privacy Act.

Your personal information will be retained by Global Affairs Canada for up to 10 years following the close of the consultation so that we may contact you for feedback on the review of Canada’s TRQ administration. Within 10 years, personal information will be destroyed.

You have the right to the protection of your personal information, including the right to request access to, and correction of, your personal information where you believe there is an error or omission. You may contact the department’s Access to Information and Privacy Protection Division to exercise these rights. If contacting the department, please refer to this specific consultation, title and date. You also have the right to file a formal complaint with the Privacy Commissioner of Canada regarding the department’s handling of your personal information.

It is important to know that by participating in this consultation process, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this privacy notice statement and consent to the collection, use and disclosure of the information provided therein, subject to the Privacy Act, and as described in this privacy notice statement.
