Canada’s administration of the tariff rate quota for peanut butter exports to the United States under the World Trade Organization: Closed consultation
Current status: Closed
This consultation ran from June 4, 2024 to July 5, 2024.
In keeping with Global Affairs Canada’s policy, the Government of Canada was seeking input from Canadians from June 4 to July 5 on the administration of the Tariff Rate Quota (TRQ) for peanut butter exports to the United States under the WTO.
Stakeholders had until 11:59 p.m. (Pacific Time) on July 5, 2024, to submit their responses, comments and suggestions.
Why was this consultation held?
The input gathered through this process will inform the Government of Canada of industry stakeholder interests regarding the existing administration policy, and possible changes that Global Affairs Canada is considering as a result of the U.S. tariff elimination for peanut butter made from originating peanuts under the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement, which will come into effect January 1, 2025. Any changes to the administration policy of the WTO TRQ would take effect for the quota year beginning January 1, 2025.
Who was the focus of this consultation?
The department would like to hear from all stakeholders with an interest in this matter, including:
- the Canadian public;
- exporters, processors, wholesalers or other;
- academic and experts;
- indigenous groups;
- national and provincial industry associations;
