Digital Trade Chapter

Digital trade refers to the wide range of e-commerce activities involving tangible and non-tangible products, including anything from e-commerce to streaming services.

Under CUSMA, there are 5 regulated components of digital trade:

  • Customs on digital products
  • Proprietary software
  • Civil liability for internet platforms
  • Protection and cooperation on matters of cybersecurity, privacy, spam prevention and consumer protection
  • Data localization laws

This chapter ensures that Canadian companies will be able to take advantage of expanding e-commerce opportunities, while ensuring a digital environment that builds consumer confidence and trust.
