Digital Trade Chapter
Digital trade refers to the wide range of e-commerce activities involving tangible and non-tangible products, including anything from e-commerce to streaming services.
Under CUSMA, there are 5 regulated components of digital trade:
- Customs on digital products
- Proprietary software
- Civil liability for internet platforms
- Protection and cooperation on matters of cybersecurity, privacy, spam prevention and consumer protection
- Data localization laws
This chapter ensures that Canadian companies will be able to take advantage of expanding e-commerce opportunities, while ensuring a digital environment that builds consumer confidence and trust.
