April 16, 2013 - Beijing, China - The Honourable Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, learns more about the increasing demand for Canadian icewine in China while meeting in Beijing with three Chinese distributors of the product. In 2012, Canada exported nearly $8.6 million worth of icewine to China, representing 55 percent of all Canadian icewine exports.

Canada is renowned as the world’s best and largest producer of icewines, thanks, in part, to an ideal climate: hot summers and cold winters. The Canadian icewine industry is educating the Chinese wine-drinking population about the significance of the Vintners Quality Alliance (VQA ) logo on labels that identifies authentic VQA Canadian Icewine.

Minister Fast is on a two-week visit to Asia that includes stops in the cities of Tokyo, Yokohama, Hong Kong, Beijing, Harbin and Tianjin before he attends the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Ministers Responsible for Trade meeting in Indonesia.
